Sprick's mysterious composition String Bird has a surrealist quality enhanced by the intense realism of its portrayal.
The artist's remarks:
"I had seen a beautiful work in reproduction by a Middle Eastern artist. It was a cluster of wooden sticks against a wood grain background. Cast shadows from the sticks were so subtle on the wooden background that I could scarcely believe it was painted by a human being. Feeling challenged, I thought I would have to someday try and see if I could possibly match the sublime nature of what I saw. As it was, I could not match such subtlety, but when I finally saw the artist's work in person I was surprised to see that it was not a painting after all, but an assemblage of found objects."
