BUILT FOR A NEW CENTURY

BRANDYWINE RIVER MUSEUM
The dramatic new wing and renovations to pre-existing spaces provide:
- 28,600 square feet of new and renovated space
- Two new exhibition galleries, including the Bayard and Mary Sharp Gallery
- A new classroom-funded by the Young Friends of the Brandywine Conservancy-with computer capability for school groups
- Two new and expanded art storage areas for our growing collections
- A new, larger library-The Walter and Leonore Annenberg Library-for reference materials, rare books and artists' memorabilia
- Safer and more secure work areas for moving art
- State-of-the-art climate control and security systems
- Additional office and conference space
- Additional restrooms and improved kitchen facilities
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT CENTER
Renovations to the existing Victorian-era building restored in 1989 provide:
- Redesigned office space for the Land Stewardship staff
- A new library-the Davenport Environmental Library-for environmental periodicals and reference texts
- A new conference room-underwritten by Gerret van S. Copeland-with audio-visual capability
Conversion of a former Chadds Ford house and post office-now the Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Building-provides new space for:
- The Municipal Assistance Program staff and records storage
- A cartography center-The Davenport Family Cartography
- Center-for geographic information systems (GIS)
- Conservation Design offices
- A conference room
KUERNER FARM
Restoration of the historic Kuerner Farm began in 1999 when the Conservancy acquired the property. The goal of this continuing project is to restore the farm to its appearance in the 1960s and 1970s when Andrew Wyeth was very active there depicting the Kuerner family and landscape in many works of art.
The following work has been completed to date:
- Restoration of the house exterior
- Replacement of barn siding
- Upgrade of plumbing and electrical systems
- Restoration of interior rooms
- Installation of security systems and perimeter fencing
- Planning for restoration of the farm pond
- Environmental research to assure protection of wetlands
- Research to nominate the property as a National Historic Site
- An exhibition in the Brandywine River Museum on the history of the farm and the art it has engendered.
GEORGE A. WEYMOUTH BUILDING
The new Membership and Development office building provides:
- 6,600 square feet of highly functional, energy efficient space
- Offices for development staff and the chairman of the board
- Offices and storage space for the membership program
- Office and storage space for the Young Friends of the Brandywine
- Office and storage space for the Radnor Hunt Races
- A multi-purpose conference room
SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE BUILDING
This important facility supports all Museum and Environmental Management Center programs and provides:
- 25,500 square feet on three floors situated above the flood plain
- Offices and work areas for garden volunteers and for wildflower seed storage
- Well-equipped wood and paint shops
- Storage for exhibition materials
- Secure, climate-controlled space for Museum Store sales inventory
- Secure, climate-controlled space for the Conservancy's archives
- Storage areas for large equipment and vehicles
- Offices and workrooms for property management staff
