Exhibiting American art in a 19th-century gristmill, the Brandywine River Museum is internationally known for its unparalleled collection of works by three generations of the Wyeth family and its outstanding collection of American illustration, still life and landscape art. The Museum combines the charm of the old with the excitement of the new, the elegance of art with the grandeur of nature. Galleries boast original beams and wide board floors, while glass-walled lobbies provide expansive views of the historic river and countryside. With 50% more gallery space added in 2004, the Museum features special exhibitions which change throughout the year. Many seasonal events delight visitors of all ages. Guidelines for Special Events The Brandywine River Museum is available year-round for events from 6 p.m. to midnight.Events can be held in the Museum lobbies, Restaurant, Lecture Room and Courtyard. Fees-based on three-hour use-are determined according to the amount of space reserved. An additional hourly rate is charged for events exceeding three hours. Seated dinners for a maximum of 80 people can be served in the Restaurant overlooking the river. The Museum lobbies and Courtyard easily accommodate up to 600 people for cocktail receptions and standing buffets. Galleries will be open for up to two hours during events. Tents and portable dance floors are not permitted. The Museum is accessible to people with disabilities. The Museum's on-site caterer offers a wide variety of food, beverages, table linens, flower arrangements and more. The Museum's Special Events Coordinator can suggest music and other entertainment to make memorable events exceptional.
