34th Annual Antiques Show at the Brandywine River Museum

CHADDS FORD, PA - Thirty-two outstanding antique dealers from across the nation will be featured at the 34th Annual Brandywine River Museum Antiques Show on Memorial Day weekend. Hosted by the Museum Volunteers, the event presents a variety of American and English furniture, glass, metalware, ceramics, folk art, quilts, Oriental and European porcelain, rugs and other fine collectibles.

The Antiques Show runs Saturday through Monday, May 28 to May 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. All proceeds benefit the Brandywine River Museum Volunteers' Art Purchase Fund. Antiques are displayed in the Museum Courtyard, the second and third floor mill galleries, and the Museum Lecture Room.

New to the show this year are "To the Point" from Richmond, Virginia, specializing in 18th and 19th century American furniture and decorative arts, and Ed Weissman Antiquarian of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, featuring 18th and 19th century American and English furniture and brassware. Returning exhibitors include Fiske & Freeman of Belmont, Vermont, Campbell House Antiques from Baltimore, Maryland, Kemble's Early American Furniture of Norwich, Ohio and Autumn Pond Antiques from Bolton, Connecticut. 

New and special features this year are booth talks by the antiques dealers. These 30-minute talks will be offered Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30 at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Booth talks are free with Antiques Show admission.

On Friday, May 27, a special preview party of the Antiques Show will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person ($50 tax deductible) in advance and at the door (cash, check or credit card accepted). To complement the Antiques Show, the museum presents a special exhibition, Animal Sculpture in the Folk Tradition, beginning May 28 and continuing through July 24. Whether made for utilitarian or decorative purposes, imaginative folk carvings are admired for lively sculptural expressions and diverse interpretations of their subjects. This exhibition brings together some of the most outstanding examples of folk art from museum and private collections. Pieces by Wilhelm Schimmel, Aaron Mountz, Oscar Peterson, Benjamin Holmes, Aaron Augustus Wilson, Fred Alten, Edgar A. McKillop and many anonymous carvers will be featured.

On Saturday, May 28, Wendy Lavitt will share her expertise in decorative arts in an informal lecture and guided tour of the exhibition. The lecture will begin at 9:30 a.m., following a continental breakfast in the Museum Restaurant at 9 a.m. The price of the lecture, breakfast and admission to the Antiques Show is $20 per person.
