Jerry Pinkney: Aesop's Fables and Other Tails at the Brandywine River Museum

(January 2008, #089)

For Immediate Release

CHADDS FORD, PA — Ever since Jerry Pinkney: Aesop's Fables and Other Tails opened at the Brandywine River Museum, audiences have been charmed by Pinkney's delightful portrayals of animals. Now, the exhibition has expanded to include additional illustrations. Jerry Pinkney: Aesop's Fables and Other Tails continues through March 9, 2008.

Inspired by stories he heard as a child, Pinkney brings narratives to life through his skillful watercolors. His detailed illustrations for Aesop's Fables, including The Tortoise and the Hare and The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, as well as for beloved children's stories such as The Ugly Duckling, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, and Uncle Remus Tales, have earned high acclaim from art critics and great praise from young readers and parents. The winner of numerous awards, including five Caldecott Honors and five Coretta Scott King awards, Pinkney skillfully captures the wit and whimsy that have made timeless stories classics.

The public has an opportunity to meet Jerry Pinkney at a lecture and book signing on Saturday, February 2, 2008. Beginning at 1 p.m. in the Brandywine River Museum Lecture Room, the artist will speak about his work. Following his presentation and until 4 p.m., Pinkney will sign books he has illustrated and the exhibition's illustrated publication. The books may be purchased in the Museum Shop. For the book signing, there is a limit of three books per person. The lecture and book signing are free with museum admission.

In conjunction with Jerry Pinkney: Aesop's Fables and Other Tails, the museum presents "Read-Aloud Tours for Young Children" on Thursday mornings from January 31 through March 6.
