WORKSHOPS FOR ADVANCED EXPLORERS
(May, 2003, #021)
WHAT: This summer the Brandywine River Museum invites children ages 10 to 14 to explore the museum in a series of educational workshops. Each program includes a thematic guided museum tour followed by a hands-on art project.
WHEN: July 15 from 10 a.m. to noon
Making it RealóLearn the secrets of still-life painting, including artists' use of shading, scale and perspective to create the illusion of realistic images with volume. After a gallery tour, experiment with drawing activities and create still-life compositions using pencil and charcoal.
July 22 from 10 a.m. to noon
Summer Sketches- Analyze artists' use of color and perspective in landscapes and seascapes throughout the museum, including the special exhibition Summers in Maine: Paintings by N.C. Wyeth. Following the tour, go outside for drawing exercises with oil pastels. Direct observation of color in the natural setting is emphasized.
